First post is 4 p.m. Friday at Del Mar. Preview …
Race 1 – Confidentially (1) is expected to scratch from this MSW route; Aunt Lubie (4) will be a short price. She has been begging for two turns, and on Aug. 4 she worked super in blinkers according to Del Mar Clocker Report analyst Toby Turrell: “Filly added blinkers and turned in her best drill to date. Under a giant hold while working best over Henry County. Rating: B+.” Now Blessed (5) will set the pace with an upset chance.
Race 2 – Since opening week, turf sprints have become predictable: single-digit win payoffs eight of the last 10. Stop the Violence (1) is favored in this small-field starter allowance, following a creditable fourth last out in a fast-pace dirt sprint.
Race 3 – Street Zombie (11) was compromised by the race flow last out; he dueled and cracked. Claimed by Bob Hess Jr., he moves to an outside post and is sitting on a win in this maiden-20. He is listed at 7-2, which is high enough.
Race 4 – Adios Cali (4) had a tough trip finishing a third last out. Claimed by John Martin, she can win this $8k claiming sprint with clear sailing. Tuscany Beauty (2) is fast, likes the Del Mar track, is training super and has an upset chance on the front end.
Race 6 – If he reproduces his maiden win, Watch Me Burn (6) can be gone in this starter allowance for 2yos. Definitely prefer him over program favorite Baby Frankie (1).
Race 7 – Pace-presser favorite Cordiality (9) is legit in this turf mile for Cal-bred fillies and mares, but at a mile on turf the rails-at-30 setting has been kind to closers: 6 of 9 winners rallied from the back, two rallied from third, only one winner set the pace. Closers at generous odds include Shehastheritestuff (3) at 5-1, and Cheekaboo (6) at 8-1.
