Jockeys Jose Ortiz, Jose Lezcano and Dylan Davis were either fined or suspended by the stewards for recent careless riding infractions on the New York Racing Association circuit. And, after an incident in Saratoga's just completed fifth race, one would think Javier Castellano will be disciplined by the stewards as well.
Ortiz was fined $2,000 for careless riding during the seventh race at Saratoga on Wednesday. He was aboard Flyoff, who finished second in a starter allowance on the turf. Ortiz allowed his horse to come over and bump another horse several times and was ultimately disqualified from second and placed third.
Lezcano was suspended five days for careless riding during the running of the eighth race on July 27 when he finished fourth on Virtual Machine and was disqualified to fifth.
Lezcano has appealed his suspension so he'll ride until he drops that appeal.
Dylan Davis was suspended five NYRA racing days for careless riding during the running of the fourth race on July 5 when the horse he was on, Argonne, finished first but impeded several horses and was disqualified to fourth.
Davis will serve his days Monday thru Saturday next week.
Meanwhile, Javier Castellano could be in line for a fine or suspension after he allowed his mount, Pakhet, who finished second in Friday's 5th race at Saratoga, to drift out and bother Fierce Scarlett, who finished fifth.
The stewards disqualified Pakhet from 2nd and placed her 5th.
