Sue's Fortune outlasts Virginia Eloise in Grade 2 Adirondack

Sue's Fortune, the only New York bred in the field, opened a comfortable advantage in early stretch then held on for dear life to capture the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by a rapidly diminishing half-length over Virginia Eloise, who finished best of all after dropping far back during the early stages. Guacamole was third. Lyrical Lady, the 7-5 favorite, set the early pace but had little left for the stretch run, finishing a distant fifth in a field of only six juvenile fillies.

Sue's Fortune, a daughter of Jump Start, is trained by Jeremiah Englehart for Fortune Farm. She completed 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.83 over a "good" track under jockey Junior Alvarado and paid $9.10.
