Now on deck at Ellis Park is the Grade 3, $100,000 Groupie Doll, which for many years was known as the Gardenia. At a mile and going essentially a turn and a half out of Ellis Park’s unique chute, the race drew a combination of sprinters, routers, and milers.
It also drew plenty of speed, which leads me to my selection: late running Pacific Pink (6). I am hoping she will be a touch underestimated, maybe going off in the 5-1 range, having largely raced in Louisiana-bred company in her home state. She acts legitimate, however, having already won a small open stake last year. She is seven for 14 on fast tracks and might have move-forward potential in her first race for Steve Asmussen.
