The single-ticket pick six jackpot got paid out on Sunday at Del Mar for $139,474.80 on a ticket that was purchased on-track through DMTC Bets for $3,840, the track reported.
The final race was won by Give Me a Hint, who romped by 9 1/4 lengths at 9-1. There was an inquiry into the start of the race. Give Me a Hint started from the inside post, and he and several horses were involved in a scrum leaving the gate.
Grant Baker, one of Del Mar's stewards, said the stewards ruled unanimously that Give Me a Hint came out slightly but that the incident was not as bad as it looked because the two horses next to Give Me a Hint -- Sky Babe and Cat Holic -- both broke half a step slow.
"The 3 and the 4," Baker said, referring to Sky Babe and Cat Holic, "were slow starting out. They didn't leave with the 2."
He said the stewards ruled they "couldn't help the 3 and the 4." In other words, they could not justify them being awarded a better placing, let alone whether Give Me a Hint was responsible for their fate. In the opinion of the stewards, the slow starts were contributing factors in the sloppy start.
Had Give Me a Hint been disqualified and runner-up She's a Dime promoted, there would have been a pick six carryover to Wednesday.
