Fast on the dirt and 'good' on the turf at Saratoga on Monday. Races 1 and 3 are off the turf. Race 1 will be run at 5.5 furlongs on the main track. Race 3 is now 7 furlongs. Race 9 moves to the inner turf.
In race 2 I'll fall for Asian's Way, whose front-running win two back in the mud seemed an aberration, before coming back to get unlucky last time while making a bold run trying to split horses in the stretch. She's up in class for this but appears to be back in form for a trainer who has picked things up at Saratoga after struggling downstate over the summer.
In race 6 I'll stick with Lou's Chardonnay, exiting a sharp win with a new top figure up here earlier in the meet. She's up in class off the claim but fits well off that last race, and her dirt form at Churchill prior to arriving was also very strong. Orchid Party is the other horse for me in this race.
I've been treading lightly on the turf over the past week, as those courses have not been anywhere close to the listed conditions and several horses have failed to show up with anything close to their representative efforts. I'm not looking to get too involved today, either, but I could try Fayette Warrior in the 4th, a turf sprint for 2yos, if he is any kind of a price. He is by a top turf sire in Exchange Rate and is a half to the good turf horse Siding Spring, but there are some interesting horses in this field.
