Standard Deviation, a son of Curlin who drew into the race as a main-track only entrant, raced wide throughout but pulled away late from Vineyard Sound to take this seven-furlong maiden race by 2 3-4 lengths.
Standard Deviation, the 13th winner of the meet that Seth Klarman owned by himself or in partnership, was the fifth first-out 2-year-old winner sent out by trainer Chad Brown this meet. Brown's other first-out 2-year-old winners were Drynachan, Network Effect, Feedback and Fog of War.
In race 4, Brown has the highly-touted debuter Ahead of Plan, also for Klaravich.
The final time of 1:25.67 won't get anybody excited but it is a track with moisture in it.
Vineyard Sound, a firster sent out by Michael Dilger, finished second.
