A partly cloudy, comfortable day at Woodbine. All the turf races have been changed to an about distance, and the course is labeled good. The temporary rail has been placed in lane 3 only on the far turn.
Chiefswood Stables took Saturday's Breeders' Stakes with the impressive front-running winner Neepawa, and will look to sweep the weekend stakes with front-runner Tiz a Slam in the G2 Sky Classic. Tiz a Slam has won two graded stakes in a row, and the question in this 11-furlong turf route is whether or not the Maryland shipper Upmost goes with him early. If so, it could set the table for longshot Seeking Albert, who had no pace to chase when fifth behind Tiz a Slam last time in the G2 Nijinsky.
Danish Dynaformer is scratched from the Sky Classic.
The dropping Family Kitten looks like a viable single in the early pick 4, in the seventh. His trainer, Mike Maker, (assisted by Nolan Ramsey at Woodbine) doubled up yesterday, and won a turf stakes here last weekend.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is $365K heading into the nightcap, a contentious OS allowance/$40K turf sprint for non-winners of two.
