The 3yo PROMISES FULFILLED ($3.40) held on gamely under Luis Saez in denying WHITMORE and a troubled LIMOUSINE LIBERAL Friday in the Grade 2, $250,000 Phoenix Stakes, the first of 10 FallStars Weekend stakes on the huge 3-day opening weekend here at muggy Keeneland. The order was 1-2-4, with only about a length separating the top 3 finishers, and the winning time for 6 furlongs was 1:09.05 over fast going.
The Phoenix is a Win and You're In event toward the Nov. 3 Breeders' Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs.
The field was reduced to just 5 older horses with the expected early scratch of DISTINCTIVE B.
Byron King will have the full Phoenix recap up before long on www.drf.com.
Up next is the G1 $400,000 Alcibiades (R9), a Win and You're In toward the BC Juvenile Fillies.
