A Raving Beauty was a front-running winner of the Grade 1, $400,000 First Lady Stakes on Saturday on the Keeneland turf course, holding off Dona Bruja by a head in the final yards.
The German-bred mare gave trainer Chad Brown a Grade 1 double with imported fillies on two surfaces in the span of about 10 minutes. Brown was at Belmont Park on Saturday, where Chilean-bred champion Wow Cat won the Grade 1 Beldame on the main track. The day might not be over for Brown, as he also has contenders in the Shadwell Turf Mile and Breeders' Futurity here, and the Champagne at Belmont.
A Raving Beauty ($8.40), Group 1-placed in her native Germany, has made five starts this year in the U.S., winning the Grade 1 Just a Game and Grade 3 Beaugay at Belmont and finishing third in the Grade 1 Diana at Saratoga. The 5-year-old Mastercraftsman mare, under John Velazquez, completed this mile on Keeneland turf officially rated good in 1:37.78 seconds.
After A Raving Beauty and Dona Bruja, it was 2 1/4 lengths back to British-bred invaders Indian Blessing and Crown Walk rounded out the superfecta, separated by a neck.
