It's another too-warm October day at Keeneland, where later today we'll wrap up the always-eventful 3-day FallStars Weekend with 3 stakes, led by the G1 Juddmonte Spinster (R9), a terrific race that leads into the Nov. 3 BC Distaff at Churchill. The Sunday forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a third straight day of sweltering conditions, with high temperatures reaching the mid-80s (feels like 100 in direct sunlight). Don't worry, say the weather folks, but it'll start cooling off the middle of this coming week.
The main track is fast and the turf course is rated good, although you'd have to guess there's a chance it might well have dried sufficiently to go firm later on. The first of 10 races goes at 1:05 ET, with the Spinster set for 5:45 as a highlight of a 90-minute show (4:30-6) on NBC Sports.
As for the 2 earlier stakes, both are for 2yos on turf and also serve as Win and You're In qualifiers for their respective BC events. The newly revived Indian Summer (last run here way back in 2001 on the main track) is R6 (post, 4:00), and the G3 Bourbon is R8 (5:10) and part of the NBC telecast. Worth noting that the filly CONCRETE ROSE has been scratched from the Bourbon, but trainer Rusty Arnold only entered as insurance, in case she was excluded from the G2 Jessamine on Wednesday (she made the main body).
Here are the early Sunday SCRATCHES:
R2-(4); R3-(5, 10); R5-(2B); R6-(6); R7-(4, 14, 15, 16); R8-(4, 15); R10-(6, 12, 14, 15, 16).
