The stewards have decided to take Sunday's ninth race OFf the turf after the jockeys complained to them about the Widener Turf course being too loose, according to Jimmy Edwards, the steward for the Jockey Club.
The jockeys met with the stewards following race 4 to express their concerns with the course.
"It's very loose," Edwards said. "It's like rocks coming back at them. It's the Widener that's the issue."
There were six turf races scheduled for Sunday's card including the Grade 1 Flower Bowl over the inner turf and the Futurity over the Widener course.
The ninth is a maiden race that had been scheduled for seven furlongs on the Widener turf. The lone main-track entrant, Strong One #8, had been scratched earlier in the day.
Late scratches announced at 3:55 p.m. are 1,3,5,7,10,11
Edwards said the stewards would meet with the jockeys Monday morning to discuss the condition of the course and decide how many of the six scheduled turf races would be run on the grass.
