Off the turf on the holiday Monday card, except for the featured $100K Bunty Lawless Stakes. Lane 2 on a yielding course (GS 8.5), on a cloudy day with some rain.
The Bunty Lawless, a one-mile route for Ontario-sired stock, is wide open. The versatile multiple stakes winner Kingsport could go favored, in a race which he lost by a nose in 2015. Other contenders include Thor's Rocket, the 2016 winner Where's the Widget, and the late-blooming filly Red Cabernet. Hot stakes rider Eurico Da Silva will pilot the 3yo longshot Be Vewy Vewy Quiet.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is $47K heading into the eighth and final race, a five-furlong dash for $6.25K platers. It drew a mixed bag of 12, including the durable 12yo Tevez, a 20-time winner, and the classy 13-time winner Colleen's Sailor. The Norm McKnight-trained dropper Valiant Flame will likely go favored.
