The sun is supposed to pop out later and help lift temps into the mid-50s, but for now, it's been one of those bone-chilling mornings in the local area, with major cloud cover (but no forecasted rain) and temps in the mid-40s. There's been no appreciable rain here, so once again we'll be fast and firm when the first of 10 races leaves the gate at 1:05 ET.
Wasn't too surprised to see that DADDY IS A LEGEND has been scratched from the Saturday feature, the $500k Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (R9, post 5:30), the sixth and final G1 race of this 17-day fall meet. Trainer George Weaver said this week he wasn't 100-pct. committed to run, with the G3 Valley View here next Friday sure to come up a lighter spot (or at least one lacking RUSHING FALL, the likely odds-on choice today for Chad Brown). With 'Daddy' gone, surely RUSHING FALL will be an even heavier favorite in a field of 7 3yo turf fillies.
Here are all the early SCRATCHES: R2-(5); R4-(4); R6-(1); R7-(1, 1A); R9-(4); R10-(1A, 13).
