Cruel Intention, a $200,000 purchase at the Barretts April Sale of 2-year-olds in-training, was the comfortable winner of a maiden special weight race for California-breds in Saturday's fourth race.

Cruel Intention ($2.40) was ridden by Drayden Van Dyke in a performance that seemed more like a workout through the stretch. By Smiling Tiger, Cruel Intention won by 5 1-2 lengths over 7-1 Teacher's Treasure who was 15 1-2 lengths clear of third-place finisher Unusual Angel (40-1).

Cruel Intention was timed in 1:09.72 Trained by Bob Baffert, Cruel Intention is owned by Larry Roth's LNJ Foxwoods, Jungle Racing and Nexus Racing.
