Kershaw, the 3-year-old gelding who was a winner at Del Mar in July, will start as a contender in Saturday's third race, a starter allowance at a mile. For the first time, the racehorse and his namesake - Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw - may perform on the same day.
There is a chance Clayton Kershaw could pitch tonight in Game 7 between the Dodgers and Milwaukee in the National League Championship Series, although Walker Buehler will start for the Dodgers. Kershaw pitched the day before Kershaw, the gelding, finished second in a starter allowance at Del Mar on Aug. 24.
On Sept. 28, Kershaw, the gelding, finsihed sixth in a starter allowance on the opening day of the current autumn meeting. A day later, Kershaw, the pitcher, had a complete game win against the SF Giants.
Saturday's race has only five runners. Kershaw (1) will be ridden by the hot apprentice jockey Heriberto Figueroa. The morning-line favorite is Rinse and Repeat (3), who was fifth in a productive starter allowance on turf on Oct. 4 behidn Starting Bloc, who returned to win on Friday.
