Jockey Goevanni Franco won his third consecutive race in Saturday's eighth aboard the speedy Tough But Nice, who led throughout an allowance race with a $16,000 claiming option for Cal-breds at 6 1-2 furlongs.
Tough But Nice ($14) was timed in 1:15.88 after setting scorching fractions of 21.30 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 43.70 for a half-mile on a day with temperatures in the low 90s.
Earlier in the program, Franco won the sixth race on Baby Ice ($6.40) and the seventh on Posh Holly ($6). None of those winners were favored.
Franco has one more mount - Bold Endeavor (6) in the ninth and final race.
