Keeneland stewards on Wednesday issued Chris Landeros a three-day suspension for his ride on Beach Flower, who was disqualified from first and placed third for interference Sunday at Keeneland in the Grade 3 Dowager.
Beach Flower, trained by Mac Robertson, led throughout the 1 1/2-mile turf race, but was ruled to have impeded English Affair in the stretch run, resulting in an official one-two finish from Vexatious and English Affair.
The disqualification elicited strong responses from fans and bettors on social media.
The stewards were uncertain early Wednesday afternoon when Landeros would serve the suspension. The next entry day in Kentucky is Thursday for opening-day racing at Churchill Downs on Sunday.
Also Wednesday, Ricardo Santana Jr. replaced Chris Landero's on Robertson-trained Hot Shot Kid in Wednesday's seventh race, a move the stewards said would require a "double jock mount" - meaning both Santana and Landeros would have to be paid by the owner, Warren Bush. The jockey change was made before the stewards issued their suspension of Landeros.
