While most of the training action was understandably taking place this morning beneath the Twin Spires, 10 minutes down the road at Churchill Downs Trackside, Juvenile Turf pre-entry Henley's Joy turned in his final work toward the Breeders' Cup.
Trackside clocker Richard McCreery timed him breezing five furlongs in 1:03 4/5 seconds over what he said was a dull strip to start the morning. He also caught Great Wide Open - an alternate for the Breeders' Cup Mile - going five furlongs in 1:00 later in the a.m.
Henley's Joy - winner of this first two starts for owner Bloom Racing Stable and trainer Mike Maker, including the Kentucky Downs Juvenile - most recently was second, beaten a nose by Current, in the Grade 3 Bourbon at Keeneland. Video of that race is available in the attached link. He can be seen in the white blinkers, with his jockey in red silks.
