Saenz hits milestone of 2,000 Thoroughbred wins in North America

Jockey Diego Saenz hit a milestone of 2,000 Thoroughbred wins in North America on Thursday night, when he guided Lovely Charlie ($6.60) to victory in the eighth race at Delta Downs.

Saenz and Lovely Charlie withstood a claim of foul concerning the stretch run. The pair won by a length and three-quarters in the optional $30,000 claiming sprint for fillies and mares. Lovely Charlie was the third winner on the card for Saenz. He was aboard Lovely Charlie for Elite Thoroughbred Racing and trainer Lee Thomas.

Saenz has had 10,270 career mounts and those horses have earned a collective $39,942,937. He won the first race of his career on July 29, 2004 at Retama Park, according to Daily Racing Form records. Saenz won his first graded stakes last month in the Grade 3, $300,000 Super Derby, aboard Limation. It was one of four stakes wins he had on Super Derby Day at Louisiana Downs.

Other stakes winners for Saenz include Mobile Bay.
