Game Winner drew post 9 and was installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a full field of 14 entered Monday for Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.
Game Winner, who won the Del Mar Futurity and American Pharoah _ two Grade 1s run in Southern California _ is 3 for 3 overall.
Game Winner is trained by three-time Juvenile winning trainer Bob Baffert and owned by Gary and Mary West. Those connections won this race in 2013 with New Year’s Day.
Chad Brown, who won last year’s Juvenile with Good Magic, sends out Complexity, the Grade 1 Champagne winner who drew post 6 and was installed as the 5-2 second choice.
Code of Honor, who finished second to Complexity in the Champagne, drew post 11 and was made the 5-1 third choice.
As expected, Trophy Chaser was not entered in the Juvenile, his connections opting to run in Friday’s Street Sense Stakes instead. That opened a spot for Derby Date, a maiden trained by five-time Juvenile winning trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
The field, from the rail out, is Dueling, Mr. Money, Derby Date, Tight Ten, Well Defined, Complexity, Mind Control, Standard Deviation, Game Winner, Knicks Go, Code of Honor, Gunmetal Grey, Topper T, and Signalman.
