Newspaperofrecord absolutely humiliated her rivals in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday at Churchill Downs, romping in front-running fashion to a 6 3/4-length victory in which the outcome of the race never looked in doubt, and in which Newspaperofrecord made a healthy bid for the 2-year-old filly Eclipse Award.

Newspaperofrecord ($3.20) had won her two prior starts in similar, dominating fashion, but this was against a better field, and it mattered not. She was on another plane from her 13 rivals.

Newspaperofrecord went to the front over a course officially rated "good" and set fractions of 24.06 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.58 seconds for a half, and 1:13.75 for six furlongs. As the field turned into the stretch, she was going so easily that jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. looked back to see if there was any danger. There wasn't.

Newspaperofrecord maintained a wide margin to the wire, which she reached in 1:39 for one mile.

The only drama was who would fill out the gimmicks behind her. East made the last run to gain the place, a neck better than Stellar Agent. Just Wonderful was another three-quarters of a length back in fourth.

Newspaperofrecord , by Lope de Vega, is owned by Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables. She is trained by Chad Brown, who won this race for the fifth time overall, and third straight time. One of his prior winners, Lady Eli, was a champion-caliber filly her 2-year-old season, but lost the vote to a traditional dirt-raced runner. Newspaperofrecord might make the headlines this year.
