Coming on the heels of Monomoy Girl shining in winning the distaff, another filly is the headliner of the Breeders' Cup Turf: Enable, a two-time Arc winner.
Here are my picks and thoughts on the race:
1. Enable 2. Waldgeist. 3. Channel Maker. 4. Glorious Empire
Not crazy about the price, but just can't go against Enable...She is 9 for 10, a two-time Arc winner - something only seven horses have done in history. She is still fresh after just a two-race campaign this year, and produces whether she is running on firm or wet ground, everywhere from England to Ireland to France. Now she takes her show on the road to America.
Waldgeist has enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2018, winning four of six races in France, with his only losses being a fourth in the Arc and a fifth in his seasonal debut. He was beaten less than two lengths by Enable in the Arc, and others, including the winner, had a smoother journeys than he did. Even before this year's stellar campaign, he showed a love of racing over wet turf.
Channel Maker and Glorious Empire appear to be the American's best suited to racing over tiring conditions. That noted, they act a cut below the standard to win a world-class Grade 1, and seem best used underneath in the gimmicks.
