Off the turf at Aqueduct again today. Races 4 and 6 will both be contested at a mile on the main track, which is 'fast'.
There is a carryover in the pick six of slightly more than $20k.
Let's just hit some spots:
Race 3: Brass Ring is a very light 3:5 on the ML, but is clearly the horse to beat in a weak maiden $30k claimer. I am taking a small shot against him with Family Fortune, who is slow on the way in but has faced a couple of much better horses in his two starts to date. The firster Free Coffee may not be able to run but it's hard to argue with this spot.
Race 5: Main concern with Halloween Horror is that his trainer, who had been on a major run over the past couple of months, has appeared to have cooled off considerably. Halloween Horror ran too well to lose at this level last time, and he also ran a race that would make him too tough for this field three starts back when winning with an 81 Beyer, though he may have been a beneficiary of that hot streak in those races. I'm sticking with him, mostly because I do not like ML favorite Zap Zap Zap at all.
Race 8: I have no problem with Mr. Buff as the horse to beat but I'll try Calculated Risker against him here at a price. This horse has improved noticeably since claimed by Ray Handal and the distance is of no concern. Forget that Empire Classic try where he stumbled badly in a race where he was likely in too tough, anyway.
