Entries were drawn Wednesday for Saturday's Claiming Crown program at Gulfstream Park with Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint runner-up World of Trouble conspicuous by his absence from the $125,000 Canterbury.
Trainer Jason Servis and owner Michael Dubb had originally planned on runnning World of Trouble, who earned a 118 Beyer Speed Figure for his second place finish in the Turf Sprint, in the five furlong Canterbury but had a late change of heart prior to entry time.
"After checking out the sheet number from the Breeders' Cup, Michael felt there was a chance World of Trouble could be vulnerable in this race running back in just four weeks," Servis explained. "He's doing fine, but since we're not destitute, there was no pressing need to run him back on Saturday."
Servis and Dubb will still be well represented in the Canterbury with the red hot Dowse's Beach, coming off three one-sided wins, now likely the one to beat.
"I hated running the two horses against each other anyway," said Servis. "We've got plenty of options available to World of Trouble later in the meet, on both the turf and dirt, so we're not in any real rush to bring him back."
The Canterbury is one of nine Claiming Crown races to be run on Saturday, opening day of the 2018-19 Gulfstream Park Championship meet. Post time for the first race has been advanced to 11:50 a.m.
