I think the only reason why the Remsen was as close as it was - and it really wasn't close; Maximus Mischief won clear and by enough - is that soon after Maximus Mischief shook clear from the field into the far turn, he gravitated toward the inside, which has been demonstrably dead on the main track at Aqueduct the last two days.
That's not a knock on Frankie Pennington, Maximus Mischief's jockey. Pennington, in fact, took pains to keep Maximus Mischief out in the track in the eartly stages. It's just an observation that Maximus Mischief naturally gravitated toward the inside once he went clear, as many horses are wont to do, and that had a muting effect on a Remsen score that was solid.
