Giving Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott his second win of the day, DOLCE LILI ($8.60) out-footed CONQUEST HARDCANDY down the stretch to win the first turf stakes of the Pegasus World Cup card, the $125,000 South Beach for older fillies and mares. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez was aboard the winner.
Dolce Lili, a 5-year-old Scat Daddy mare owned by the Don Alberto Stable, finished the 7 1/2-furlong distance in 1:33.63 over a course rated yielding. The top-5 order was 9-10-1-14-5.
Mott won the fourth race with an eye-catching first-timer, HIDDEN SCROLL.
The first three turf races of the day, including the Gulfstream Turf Sprint (R3) and Ladies’ Turf Sprint (R5), were transferred to the main track. The last four turf races, ending with the $7 million Pegasus Turf (R10), all will remain, barring further announcement.
Jay Privman will have the full South Beach recap up soon on www.drf.com.
