The lightly raced Dream Pauline served notice she should be a force to reckon with in the filly and mare sprint division this season after slipping up the rail under Javier Castellano to a one-sided victory in the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie. The win was the fourth in just five starts for Dream Pauline, a 4-year-old homebred daughter of Tapit owned by Stonestreet Stables and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.
Pacific Gale, a 40-1 outsider, rallied to finish second followed by Stormy Embrace. Shamrock Rose, the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner and recently crowned Eclipse Award champion, was never a serious factor finishing a disappointing fourth in her 2019 debut.
Dream Pauline completed seven furlongs over the sloppy and sealed track in 1:21.45 and paid $7.80. She was the first horses to win from off the pace after five wire to wire main track winners to start the day.
