Captain Von Trapp ($6.40) rallied from off the pace to win his maiden in the seventh race Friday at Oaklawn, with Cowboy Diplomacy, a 3-year-old full brother to champion Monomoy Girl, finishing second in what was his career debut. The winner covered six furlongs on a muddy, sealed track in 1:11.39.
Captain Von Trapp came into the race off a fifth-place finish to Gray Attempt, eventual winner of the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn, in a maiden special weight in November at Churchill Downs.
