The most noteworthy scratch from the five Saturday stakes at Laurel Park is Discreet Lover in the John B. Campbell.
Discreet Lover, winner of the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup last September, was withdrawn from the 1 1/8-mile Campbell by trainer Uriah St. Lewis, who instead worked the 6-year-old three furlongs in 38.56 seconds at Parx. The work was only the second for Discreet Lover since his eighth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
On Thursday, St. Lewis said he planned to start Discreet Lover in the Campbell.
Colonel Juan, Forewarned and Liberty Lane also have been scratched from the Campbell, leaving a field of eight.
The only other stakes scratch at Laurel is Timeless Curls from the Grade 3 Barbara Fritchie. She instead will run in Monday's Maryland Racing Media Stakes.
The precipitation which earlier in the week threatened to affect the card has stayed to the south. The forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the mid-40's.
