There's been some consternation regarding the two-turn dirt Beyer Speed Figures from Saturday's card at Fair Grounds. The way Randy Moss, who makes Beyers at Fair Grounds, must have arrived at the figures seemed pretty clear to me, but I emailed Andy Beyer earlier today just to make sure I was on the right track.
Beyer confirmed that Moss split the track variant, calculating that the racing surface slowed late in the card, a position not difficult to defend given the day's first two dirt races (1 & 3) had faster winning times than would've been expected for the respective class levels. Also - race 12, the Risen Star, was run at 6:17, almost six hours after race 1. Night and temperature had fallen; conditions on the program were dynamic from start to finish.
Moss did one other thing - project the winning figure in the Mineshaft Handicap, which unfolded at an absolutely ridiculous tempo (fractional times appear to have been accurate) and couldn't have produced a representative number.
Here's how that dirt-route sequence looks:
Race 7 (3:27): By My Standards (MSW) 1:45.04 - BSF 78
Race 9 (4:31): Silver Dust (G3 older) 1:45.37 - BSF 99
Race 11 (5:39): Serengeti Empress (G2 3yof) 1:44.74 - BSF 91
Race 12 (6:17): War of Will (G2 3yo) 1:44.59 - BSF 92
