We just got a little more context with which to assess Intrepid Heart's runaway maiden victory as a heavy favorite in his debut earlier this afternoon at Oaklawn.
Intrepid Heart, a Todd Pletcher-trained colt by Tapit, won the first division of a split, straight maiden event for 3-year-olds going one mile by almost eight lengths after contesting the early pace, and completed the distance in 1:38.08.
Comedian just won the second division of this split maiden route by open lengths from off the pace and in going away fashion in 1:38.31.
Comedian, who had the benefit of two prior starts and who finished second in both of them, was perfectly set up today after a run-off pacesetter gave way into the stretch.
So, the fact that Intrepid Heart still ran faster without having had the benefit of prior racing experience or an ideal set up bodes very well for his future.
