Cesar DeAlba, the former leading Quarter Horse jockey at Los Alamitos, launches his career as a Thoroughbred trainer when Pied N True (1) starts in Saturday's third race at Santa Anita, a $16,000 claimer for fillies and mares at six furlongs.
DeAlba, who owns Pied N True, claimed the 6-year-old mare fo $16,000 on Jan. 6. DeAlba rode his final race at Los Alamitos in December and said at the time that he plans to have a stable of Thoroughbreds. DeAlba has a background as a Thoroughbred jockey before he switched to Quarter Horses.
Pied N True is 6-1 on the morning-line. She will be fitted with blinkers in search of her third win in her 21st start. The race is restricted to non-winners of three.
