Through the first five races on the card, the results have been logical at AQUEDUCT but it seems a good idea to be within striking distance of the lead as opposed to trying to come from too far back.
Oh My Papa ($6.40) in race 1 and Devine Dental ($6.70) in race 4 went gate to wire. Daddy D T ($9.10) in race 2 chased from second before taking over in midstretch. Mom I Forgive You ($5.20) was a relatively up close third in race 3 while Three to Thirteen ($4.50) pressed the pace before taking charge under Dylan Davis to win the fifth.
Both Davis and Manny Franco have won two races on the card.
In a bit of an oddity, neither Franco, the leading rider, or Junior Alvarado, second in the standings at this meet, have a mount in the Grade 3, $300,000 Gotham Stakes.
Franco was scheduled to ride Federal Case who was re-routed to the Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream in two weeks. Alvarado was going to ride Much Better for Bob Baffert before Santa Anita canceled its card leaving Mike Smith open for the mount.
