Welder ($2.40) won the $50,000 Highland Ice Stakes on Tuesday at Will Rogers Downs. Regular rider David Cabrera was aboard in what was his first mount since March 14 as he had been tending to a family emergency in Mexico. 

Welder pushed Wings Locked Up through fractions of 22.41 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.34 for the half-mile, left his pace rival, and went on to cover six furlongs on a fast track in 1:09.81.
