New York Central, who was an impressive allowance winner at Oaklawn, is being pointed for the Grade 3, $250,000 Commonwealth at Keeneland, trainer Steve Asmussen said Tuesday.
The seven furlong race for 4-year-olds and up will be run Saturday.
New York Central is coming off a Feb. 18 sprint win at Oaklawn in which he covered six furlongs in 1:09.80. The out was his first since last May, when he ran second in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs.
"He came out of the box running this year," said Asmussen, who trains New York Central for the partnership of WinStar Farm, China Horse Club International and SF Racing.
