Tacitus survived some early trouble, in turn caused a little of his own, but in the end edged away from Tax to register a 1 1/4 length victory in a roughly run renewal of the Grade 1 Wood. Haikal rallied mildly to finish third while never threatening the top pair.

Following an inquiry, the stewards disqualified Joevia from seventh and placed him last for dropping over sharply and causing severe crowding shortly after the start, but did not take any action on the incident that saw Overdeliver knocked offstride by the winner entering the clubhouse turn. 

Tactitus completed a mile and one eighth in 1:51.23, his final time .31 seconds faster than older horses covered the same distance earlier on the card in the Grade 3 Excelsior. He paid $7.20 as the tepid favorite in a field of 11 3-year-olds.
