The winning payoff on the mandatory payout Charles Town pick six was incorrectly calculated and disseminated on Saturday, Charles Town Classic Day.
There was a carryover of $179,963 coming into the card and $1,196,337 in fresh money was wagered into the pool. The Charles Town 6-12, as it is called, has a 12 percent takeout.
The original payout posted on TVG was a 20-cent payout of $6,168.50 and a carryover of $443,152.38.
That was later changed to a 20-cent payout of $9,630.62 and no carryover.
The Equibase chart lists the payout as $9,630.60 for a $1 wager.
As of 9 p.m. Saturday night, TwinSpires.com listed the payoff as $48,153.10 for $1 (which is the same as TVG's corrected 20-cent price) with a carryover of $443,152.38.
Erich Zimny, the vice president of racing operations at Charles Town, said a wrong payout was posted but quickly corrected.
It was "caught very early and repriced," he said.
The track's Twitter feed, @RaceCharlesTown, posted the following message, which elicited a limited number of critical responses:
"PICK 6 UPDATE: Tote initially priced the Pick 6 payout incorrectly. There is NO carryover. EVERYONE who hit the Pick 6 is getting paid the correct and full amount."
It is still not clear which price is correct or if any hard-ticket winners cashed under an incorrect price.
Zimny did not immediately respond when asked via email for the correct payoff or the number of winning tickets.
The winning horses in the sequence were Malpais ($4), Clubman ($21.80), Divine Mischief ($29.20), Runnin'toluvya ($21.20), Parisian Diva ($3.40), and Winning Scholar ($9.80).
