Laurel Park canceled races 6 to 10 on its Thursday card after a bad thunderstorm passed through the area, turning the main track from fast to sloppy and forcing races 6 and 8 off the turf.
The horses for race 6 were kept in the paddock as the track maintenbance crew worked on the racing surface but management ultimately decided to cancel because the main track "was saturated" and "more storms were on the way," according to Sal Sinatra, president of the Maryland Jockey Club.
A $2 consolation daily double starting with Where You Was (No. 2, $13.60) in race 5 to all runners in race 6 paid $14.40.
A $1 pick three that began with Mrs Robin E (No. 3, $6.80) and Where You Was paid $27.20 with all runners in race 6.
All other wagers involving races 6-10 were refunded.
