Plenty of live action at Santa Anita, and simulcast action from Churchill Downs. Saturday preview …
CD race 7 (10:55 PT) – California shipper Raven’s Lady (1) might not be good enough in this G2 turf mile, but her U.S. debut was only a prep and her 2018 form in Europe was respectable. A Daily Racing Form “horse to watch” following her comeback, she is worth a stab at 20-1.
SA race 1 (12 noon PT) – Posterize (8) ran super finishing second last out, trained well since and has a recency edge over program-favorite comebacker Baby Gronk (4).
SA race 2 (12:30 PT) – Five-runner sprint stakes, three evenly matched fillies in order of preference: one-eyed Hard Not to Love (2), one-for-one Miss My Rose (5) and stakes winner Sneaking Out (4).
CD race 9 (12:37 PT) – Evenly matched G2 turf route for 3-year-olds, and keep coming back to the sharp Seismic Wave (5) as a horse that might slip through the cracks. He is listed at 8-1. Good enough.
SA race 3 (1:08 PT) – Six-runner turf route stakes, Maxim Rate (2) has a score to settle with stablemate Hostess (6). Maxim Rate looks from here like the most probable winner on the Santa Anita card.
CD race 10 (1:28 PT) – Good luck trying to beat Instagrand (10) in this G3 dirt mile. He’ll be tough at 6-5. This handicapper will pass the race.
SA race 5 (2:18 PT) – Zest (1) ran well first out, and trained well. Sired by Tapit, she should like turf. At 5-1 in this maiden turf mile, she is among the most appealing gambles on the Santa Anita card.
CD race 11 (2:25 PT) – He is not the most likely winner of this G1 turf route, but Clyde’s Image (6) should not be 15-1 off his runner-up finish in a Grade 1 turf mile at Keeneland. At double-digit odds, he is worth a stab.
CD race 12 (3:50 PT) – Game Winner (16) is this handicapper’s top choice to win the Kentucky Derby, and intrigued by under-the-radar longshot Spinoff (19). Each start better than the start before, should be a huge price.
SA race 7 (4:20 PT) – Class-drop front-runner Vander Kelen (2) has a shot to upset favorite Kidmon (4). The latter’s odds will be short, he promises more than he delivers.
SA race 8 (4:55) – Game Winner’s older sibling Flagstaff (5) is primed for his comeback, should be tough in this N1X sprint. Second choice in program, potential favorite.
SA race 9 (5:25) – If he starts as his 7-2 program odds, Count Alexander (5) is worth backing in this N2X turf mile.
Santa Anita first post, 12 noon. Churchill Downs is underway.
