John Velazquez to ride Bodexpress in Preakness

The Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez has picked up the mount on the maiden Bodexpress for next Saturday's $1.5 million Preakness Stakes, Gustavo Delgado Jr., son of trainer Gustavo Delgado, confirmed via text on Sunday.

Velazquez has won the Kentucky Derby twice and the Belmont Stakes twice, but is winless with eight mounts in the Preakness. He twice finished second, with Animal Kingdom in 2011 and Itsmyluckyday in 2013.

Velazquez rode Code of Honor to a third-place finish (elevated to 2nd) in the Kentucky Derby. Code of Honor is skipping the Preakness.

Bodexpress is winless in six starts though he finished second to Maximum Security in the Grade 1 Florida Derby. Bodexpress finished 14th (elevated to 13th) under Chris Landeros in the Kentucky Derby after drawing in from the also-eligible list.
