Owner-trainer Kenny Smith was fined $1,000 and his horse Big Kitty Kitty was disqualified from her win the second race May 3 at Prairie Meadows after testing positive for the prohibited medication, betamethasone. Smith waived his right to present evidence to the stewards and declined the opportunity to have a split sample tested, according to a release from the Iowa Gaming and Racing Commission. Betamethasone is a corticosteroid often used to treat joint pain in horses.
