King Jack, a first-time starter trained by Jerry Hollendofer, closed from third to win his debut in a maiden special weight race at six furlongs in Saturday's sixth race.
By Jimmy Creek, King Jack ($7.40) was ridden by Mike Smith, the first of his two mounts on the program. Smith will ride the heavily favored Paradise Woods in the eighth race, the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1-16 miles.
Owned by Michael Stinson, King Jack was timed in 1:10.93, the same time as the first division of a 3-year-old maiden race in the fourth race, which was won by Comical Ghost.
King Jack finished 3 1-4 lengths in front of 6-5 favorite Morning Snow, a first-time starter trained by Bob Baffert.
