La Force won the first stakes of her career in Saturday's Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes for fillies and mares in an upset over 1-5 Paradise Woods, who stumbled at the start, raced in traffic and still closed well to finish second.
La Force ($12.80) ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:45.91. She was second to Paradise Woods in the Grade 2 Santa Margarita Stakes at 1 1-8 miles on April 27 when the latter won by 10 1-2 lengths.
La Force beat Paradise Woods by 1 1-4 lengths. Just a Smidge was third, followed by Exuberance and Tapped.
