Separationofpowers made amends for her disappointing effort in the Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap four weeks earlier with an easy, wire to wire, 4 3/4 length victory over Chalon in the $250,000, Grade 3 Bed O' Roses. Dawn the Destroyer finished third.
With Jose Ortiz aboard, Separationofpowers sprinted right to the lead, set a very reasonable pace of 22.49 and 45.04 for the opening quarter and half-mile, shook off early pursuer Spring in the Wind entering the stretch and was never seriously meanced thereafter. Chalon fallied outside into the attending position at mid-stretch but never menaced the winner while finishing 1 1/2 lengths clear of Dawn the Destroyer to be second.
Separationofpowers, winner of the Grade 1 Test at 3, is a 4-year-old daughter of Candy Ride trained by Chad Brown for Klaravich Stables Inc. She covered seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:21.46 and paid $7.80.
