Beginning Friday at Santa Anita, the California Horse Racing Board and Santa Anita enacted more stringent inspections of horses entered to race in the aftermath of 29 equine fatalities since late December.
The five-person panel of inspectors is observing runners entered to race and withdrew seven horses on Friday and Saturday, including four on Saturday.
The horses withdrawn on Saturday were Finallygotabentley in the first race, Thalia in the sixth, Mason Dixon in the seventh and Clever One in the ninth.
Two horses were ommitted from being entered on Sunday - Acadia Fleet and Unbroken Star.
The panel will be in place through the end of the current Santa Anita meeting, on June 23. The panel consists of California equine medical director Rick Arthur, chief steward Darrel McHargue, state veterinarian Tim Grande and stewards Scott Chaney and Ron Church.
