Mid-Atlantic rider Alex Cintron won his 1,000th race in North America on Monday aboard Lorden’s Love in the fourth race at Delaware Park.
Lorden’s Love, who is trained by Scott Lake, paid $15.40 in the $12,500 claiming race.
Cintron is currently riding in both Delaware and Maryland. He leads the Thoroughbred standings at Delaware and through six races Monday trails Carol Cedeno by one win in the overall standings. Delaware often closes out its cards with an Arabian race.
A native of Puerto Rico who will turn 32 on July 31, Cintron is eight for 33 at the Laurel Park summer meet.
Cintron scored his first Grade 1 victory on June 29 aboard Wet Your Whistle in the Highlander at Woodbine. Wet Your Whistle is trained by Graham Motion.
Cintron has been involved in some nasty spills the last five years. In 2014, he injured his face and jaw in a spill at Laurel that required the installation of a metal plate. On November 19, 2017, he again suffered injuries to his face, plus a knee and shoulder, in a spill at Laurel, which kept him sidelined for six months.
“I am just so thankful to reach this milestone,” Cintron said. “Not so long ago, I was not sure about ever riding again after recovering from injuries I suffered in a spill and to get career win 1,000 and to get my first Grade I, it is just amazing.”
