Mr Havercamp, unraced since a last-place finish in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream Park in December, made a successful 5-year-old debut, taking over in midstretch and holding off Hembree and Qurbaan to win the Grade 3, $150,000 Forbidden Apple at Saratoga.
Mr Havercamp, under Junior Alvarado for trainer Catherine Day Phillips, was three-wide on both turns, took over from the pace-setting Gidu in midstretch and held off the late and wide bids from Hembree and Qurbaan. Hembree was second by a head.
The win was the eighth from 13 starts for Mr Havercamp, a gelding by Count Vision. He won the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes at Woodbine last November one start after finishing second to Oscar Performance in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile.
Mr Havercamp covered the mile in 1:37.56 over yielding turf and returned $29.60 to win.
Voodoo Song, in his seasonal debut, chased Gidu for the opening six furlongs before tiring to eighth.
