By Your Side (7-5) chased the pace-setting Tomato Bill until the sixteenth pole before edging away to take the G3, $150,000 Sanford Stakes by three lengths. By Your Side, trained by Eddie Kenneally for Anderson Stables, remains perfect in two starts.
The winner was ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., who went to his whip eight times left-handed inside the eighth pole to get the job done.
Tomato Bill finished second by 1 3-4 lengths over Raging Whiskey. Tomato Bill drifted in on Raging Whiskey late forcing Javier Castellano to check. Castellano lodged an objection against the runner-up and there was a general stewards' inquiry into the stretch run.
The stewards deemed that the incident happened too late in the race to have had an impact on the order of finish so the stewards let the result stand: 5-4-2.
By Your Side, son of Constitution, covered the six furlongs in 1:10.22 and returned $4.80 as the favorite.
