Elate, condifently ridden by Jose Ortiz, launched a strong wide move on the far turn of the 1 1/4-mile Delaware Handicap, put away second choice Escape Clause in upper stretch, and then was wrapped up by Ortiz during the final sixteenth of a mile.
If there was any doubt she is as good this year as last, this win should put that discussion to rest.
She paid $2.60 in the nine-horse field and was timed in 2:02 2/5.
Elate is the seventh two-time winner in the 82 ruunnings of the Del Cap and the first since Royal Delta in 2012-13. Both Elate and Royal Delta are trained by Bill Mott. His four wins in the race tie him with Todd Pletcher and Henry S. Clark for the most wins by a trainer in the race.
The Delaware Handicap was Ortiz's fourth stakes win on the card.
